Blossoms

I hadn’t been out for a while but what a surprise today – the cherry blossoms are in full bloom! They never cease to delight with their delicate boldness and the poignancy of their transitory beauty is said to represent life itself.
Watching flowers over a period of time can be like a long meditation.
Outside my window I have a Magnolia tree. From January the buds appear and in February they gradually grow heavier. At the beginning of March the purple hue of their unfurled petals is painted by an unseen hand. I watch them each day, imagining the secret they hold so tightly in their magic palms. When they unfurl it is always a disappointment. Their blossoming is their end. Their secret flies into the wind and their petals lie open, too tired to weep for their spirit that is lost.
The Magnolia, in all her melancholic beauty, is my favourite flower.
What’s yours?

Hospitalization

I don't seem to have had the best of luck since starting this blog.
Soon after receiving the sales call to reserve my grave plot, I developed a sudden high fever. I thought it was just a cold but felt so bad that I went to emergency in a big hospital late at night. I was diagnozed with bacterial pneumonia and have just spent nearly 2 weeks in hospital.

I am gradually regaining my strength.
It was the first time for me to be hospitalized (apart from when I had my two children) and the experience has made me realize again how precious our health is.
We tend to forget the feeling of gratitude for just being able to wake up in the morning with feet that move, lungs that breathe, a heart that beats.

I had to cancel all my plans for March.
I heard that the conference in Fukuyama was a great success although I'm sure I caused some problems by cancelling at the last minute. My daughter did my book reading at the Book House in Tokyo and the Easter/Spring event at Obaachan no Tamatebako has been changed to April 20th.

I hope to be around and writing this blog regularly again.
よろしくね!
