Blossoms
I hadn’t been out for a while but what a surprise today – the cherry blossoms are in full bloom! They never cease to delight with their delicate boldness and the poignancy of their transitory beauty is said to represent life itself.
Watching flowers over a period of time can be like a long meditation.
Outside my window I have a Magnolia tree. From January the buds appear and in February they gradually grow heavier. At the beginning of March the purple hue of their unfurled petals is painted by an unseen hand. I watch them each day, imagining the secret they hold so tightly in their magic palms. When they unfurl it is always a disappointment. Their blossoming is their end. Their secret flies into the wind and their petals lie open, too tired to weep for their spirit that is lost.
The Magnolia, in all her melancholic beauty, is my favourite flower.
What’s yours?
