Washi artwork

When so much of our lives is in digital format, I think it is so nice to make some things by hand. Whether that is in the form of making a handwritten card to thank someone, baking some bread or even making yourself a bag from some material that catches your eye, using our hands and creativity is always a great boost to our spiritual well-being.
As for me, I enjoy painting pictures.
I have been learning to make Japanese washi paper these past two years and go to a washi design class once a month for lessons.

This is a small and wonderful washi design school that also take part in a lot of voluntary and community events.

Making washi is such a relaxing experience!
I am still learning the techniques but it is so healing to dye my own pulp, design a picture, mix the fibres and make my own paper. It is always fun to see how the designs turn out. As the washi is wet when it is made, the final effect after it dries is always a bit of a surprise for me.

The next project I'll be working on is making a picture book using washi paper
for the background. Stay tuned for more about that later...

Meanwhile, here are a few pictures I have made from washi.
Please excuse the amateur photography!
