Edinburgh Fringe Theatre Festival

Oh dear, it is nearly the end of September and I haven't written my blog for over 45 days.
The summer flew past and September is flying past even faster.
I do hope you all had a good summer.
I went to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this summer. The festival runs every year throughout the month of August together with the Book Festival.
Apart from the initial shock of having to adjust to seven days of moreorless constant cold rain and night temperatures near to 10 degrees (after leaving 34 degrees in Tokyo), I had a wonderful time.
If anyone ever gets the chance to visit this festival - PLEASE GO!
It is the biggest of its kind in the world with over 3000 shows and plays going on throughout the city of Edinburgh in around 300 different venues.
My sister and I saw some impressive one-actor shows, some great comedy, a thrilling acrobatic and drumming performance called Mother Africa and an impressive performance of Oscar Wilde's "A Picture of Dorian Gray."
A comedy performance by three women known as The History Girls had me laughing so much that I had tears running down by cheeks. They perform various comedy sketches including hisorical figures such as Napoleon, Josephine, Nelson, the Bronte sisters and Queen Elizabeth I. I would love to invite them to Japan to perform some time if such an opportunity ever arose.

A lot of the plays and shows are free and none of them cost too much.
Also, there is a half-price booth in the centre of the city where you can get tickets for some of the shows.
The free shows usually ask for donations at the end.
Edinburgh city is buzzing with people, creativity and ideas during the festival. The variety of what you can see is amazing - from Shakespeare to Flamenco, satire to serious drama and shows from all over the world.
If you have a moment please take a look at the 2012 programme

By the way, I do have a number of events coming up from now until the end of the year and will be writing about those soon...

Meanwhile, enjoy the cooler weather of early autumn.
